Equality and Diversity >> Equalities Champion
Overview
The aim of this programme is to create internal equalities ‘champions’ (i.e. selected staff who will be brought up-to-date with relevant current equalities legislation), and to help them plan how to ‘cascade’ key points to colleagues in their departments through service-specific briefings.
Objectives
- Understand the role and responsibilities of an internal equalities ‘champion’ within their organisation
- Have gained a sufficiently detailed understanding of key pieces of equalities / diversity legislation (to a level where they can confidently ‘cascade’ pertinent points to their colleagues and answer any questions)
- Have considered the most effective method(s) of delivering the necessary elements to those in their own department whilst ensuring that there remains a consistent message across the organisation
- Know where to source further information regarding both existing and proposed legislation
